Byline: HENRY SUTTON

ANNIE MAY'S BLACK BOOK by Debbie Holt (Simon & Schuster pounds 6.99) ****

From the author of the superb Ex-Wife's Survival Guide, comes another wicked treat. Annie May has kept a little black book detailing the names of everyone who's ever done her wrong. In bold and underlined is her ex, Ben Seymour, who just happens to move in around the corner.

MARRYING FOR MONEY by Chris Manby (Hodder & Stoughton pounds 12.99) ***

More effortless chick-lit from Manby, this time set in the Hamptons where ultra-rich, snobby Americans spend their summers. Beautiful English sisters Grace and Charity throw the cat among the pigeons when they start to attract the wrong men for the right reasons. It's handbags at dawn, until up crops a tasty gardener.

HOLLYWOOD STATION by Joseph Wambaugh (Quercus pounds 14.99) ***

Former LAPD cop Wambaugh invented the modern police procedural novel, but this is his first book for 20 years. He sticks with familiar territory - a hard-pressed and dysfunctional Hollywood cop squad - but Wambaugh is a touch rusty, at least to begin with.
