BOOK YOUR DINNER DATES TO HAVE A BALL WITH TOP DOGS; GOING TO THE DOGS.

Byline: Stephen Rea

TWO dates for your diary for 2007 were officially published this week.

First of all the National BGRB awards dinner is again being held at the Lancaster Hotel in London on Sunday, January 21. Tickets, pounds 50 each, can be obtained from the BGRB on 0207 5516110.

Much more customer-friendly are our own Midland Greyhound Ball and awards, which next year will be held on Sunday, April 1, at the Metropole Hotel at the NEC, where two extra awards for overall Midland Greyhound of the Year (announced on the night) and Midland Trainer of the Year, again announced on the night, are to be added.

Tickets for the Midland event can be purchased at pounds 30 each nearer the date from the tracks, or can be reserved in advance on 0870 840 7331.

This week at the Midland tracks is a quiet one on the open scene, but as always Coventry race tonight with their usual mixture of opens.

And, of course, the Irish Derby continues apace with the semifinals this weekend. The final, worth a massive e175,000 to the winner, will be at Shelbourne Park next Saturday.

It is an all-ticket affair but I'm told there are still some available at pounds 20 each by calling 00353 1202 6691 if you fancy a trip across to Dublin next weekend.

Finally, it has been announced that the former Cradley Sales company is returning its monthly greyhound sales to Perry Barr from September 18.

They were briefly tried at Coventry without success and the vendors from Ireland were eager to get back to the Barr where they had been for many years following the closure of Cradley.
