 BOND REDEMPTION SET FOR COLUMBUS SOUTHERN POWER
 COLUMBUS, Ohio, July 30 /PRNewswire/ --Columbus Southern Power


Company today announced that on Sept. 1 it will redeem $6 million of its first mortgage bonds, 10-1/4 percent series due Sept. 1, 1999. Redemption price will be the principal amount of each bond to be paid by check upon presentation of the bonds. Interest payable on Sept. 1 will be mailed to bondholders in the usual manner.
 This redemption is being made under the terms of the sinking fund established for the retirement of the issue, which require Columbus Southern to redeem $3 million principal amount of the series on Sept. 1 each year beginning in 1984. In addition, Columbus Southern has the non-cumulative option to redeem an additional $3 million principal amount of the series at the same time.
 Transfer books for this series will be closed at the close of business on July 30 to allow for selection by lot of the shares to be called for redemption. They will be opened on or about Aug. 1 when the notice of redemption is expected to be mailed to holders of record of the series to be redeemed. Sinking fund agent is Citibank, N.A.
 Columbus Southern Power is an operating electric utility subsidiary of American Electric Power Company (NYSE: AEP), Columbus, Ohio.
