BOND APPOINTED TO NEW AWA BOARD POSITION; SCHUMAKER NAMED CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER OF APPLETON PAPERS

 APPLETON, Wis., Jan. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Gordon Bond, chief executive officer of Appleton Papers Inc., has been named chief executive of the printing and writing operations of Arjo Wiggins Appleton's European businesses. He will move to the Arjo Wiggins Appleton's headquarters in Basingstoke, England, and will be responsible for three paper divisions; carbonless, fine, and coated; as well as the CEASA pulp operations in Spain, the European thermal paper business, and group purchasing. Arjo Wiggins Appleton p.l.c. is the parent company of Appleton Papers Inc.
 Dale H. Schumaker, president and chief operating officer of Appleton Papers Inc., will succeed Bond as chief executive officer on Feb. 1, 1993.

 Prior to joining Appleton Papers on April 1, 1989, Bond, 51, served as chief executive of the Wiggins Teape Group Carbonless Paper Operations. Bond joined the Wiggins Teape Group in 1984 and was named a director in 1986. He was appointed a director of BATUS in 1989 and has served as a director of Arjo Wiggins Appleton since its formation in December 1990.
 Schumaker, 59, joined Appleton Papers in 1965. He was named Appleton Plant manager in 1971; vice president of manufacturing in 1979; and senior vice president of manufacturing in 1984. Schumaker was named executive vice president in 1985 and president and chief operating officer in 1986. He is a 1955 graduate of the University of Wisconsin- Madison where he earned a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering.
 Schumaker announced that Richard Curwen, vice president of finance and chief financial officer, and Daniel W. McIntosh, vice president of sales, have both been promoted to executive vice president and will report to him as will the company's plant and mill managers. Reporting to Curwen will be the company's finance, human resources, information services, marketing, and environmental and public affairs teams. The customer service and quality, sales, and research and development teams will report to McIntosh. Douglas P. Buth, vice president of marketing, has been named to succeed McIntosh as vice president of sales. Michael J. Van Eyck, executive director of manufacturing planning and logistics, will become the chief executive of Arjo Wiggins Appleton's European carbonless paper division and will report to Bond. Van Eyck will operate from the division's Brussels, Belgium, headquarters. All appointments are effective Feb. 1, 1993.
 Curwen, 43, joined Appleton Papers in 1988 as vice president of finance and chief financial officer. He previously served in financial management positions with Wiggins Teape in Europe. McIntosh, 52, joined Appleton Papers in 1963 and has held various technical, marketing, and sales management positions. He was named vice president of sales and marketing in 1985. Prior to joining Appleton Papers in 1988 as director of planning, Buth, 37, held a number of financial positions with Saks Fifth Avenue, BATUS, and Price Waterhouse. He was named vice president of marketing in 1991. Van Eyck, 42, joined Appleton Papers in 1978 and has served in several manufacturing management positions. He was named to his current position as executive director of manufacturing planning and logistics in 1991.
