BOMBARDIER DELIVERS FIRST TWO OF 20

DOWNSVIEW, Ont., May 3 /PRNewswire/ -- COMAIR, the Cincinnati-based Delta Connection, took delivery late last week of the first two of 20 Canadair Regional Jets it has on order from the Bombardier Regional Aircraft Division. The airline, which is the North American launch customer for the aircraft, has options on an additional 20 Canadair RJs.
COMAIR said it will expand existing services and develop new, longer routes when it introduces the Canadair RJ to the schedule beginning June 1.
The airline's first two jets will fly into existing markets including Toronto, Chicago Midway, Columbus, Ohio and Akron/Canton, Ohio.
By mid-summer, COMAIR plans to have five Canadair RJs in service, and this will allow COMAIR to introduce the first Delta link to Iowa on July 1, with three daily non-stops between Des Moines and Cincinnati, while Lexington, Ky., will also get its first COMAIR jet service. July 15 will see the first non-stop service from Cincinnati to Providence, Rhode Island, plus a morning non-stop from Cincinnati to Minneapolis/St. Paul, to complement Delta's flights in that market.
The airline is scheduled to take delivery of nine Canadair RJs during 1993.
To date, orders and options for the Canadair Regional Jet total 72 aircraft, and eight have now been delivered (five with Germany's Lufthansa CityLine, two with COMAIR and a corporate version with XEROX).
