 BOLAND NAMED CHAIRMAN OF WACHOVIA CORPORATION OF GEORGIA
 AND WACHOVIA BANK OF GEORGIA
 ATLANTA, Nov. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Thomas E. Boland will become chairman of Wachovia Corporation of Georgia and Wachovia Bank of Georgia effective Jan. 6, 1993.
 The titles have been held since 1987 by John G. Medlin Jr., chief executive officer of Wachovia Corporation (NYSE: WB), who will remain a director of each company.
 Boland, 58, currently is vice chairman, chief administrative officer and a director of both organizations and will concentrate more of his time on activities of the Georgia bank. He also is executive vice president of Wachovia Corporation with overall responsibility for Consumer Credit Services.
 Boland joined The First National Bank of Atlanta in 1954. Following various management assignments in the credit, credit card and corporate lending departments, he was named senior officer in charge of credit policy in 1975. Boland was named chief administrative officer in 1981 and vice chairman of Wachovia Corporation of Georgia in 1987. He is a native of Columbus, Ga.
 Boland is a member of the board of directors of VISA U.S.A. Inc. and is a director of Minbanc Capital Corp. of Washington, D.C. He is a member and past chairman of the board of trustees of the Georgia State University Foundation and serves on the board of trustees of Mercer University. He is past president and a member of the executive board of the Atlanta Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Boland is a trustee of the Woodruff Arts Center, the Metropolitan Atlanta Community Foundation and the Scottish Rite Children's Medical Center, and a director of the United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta.
