BOISE CASCADE SIGNS $30 MILLION AGREEMENT WITH MCI

RYE BROOK, N.Y., June 29 /PRNewswire/ -- MCI (NASDAQ-NMS: MCIC) announced today that Boise Cascade has selected MCI as its exclusive telecommunications provider under a new five-year $30 million agreement, becoming MCI's latest "Fresh Look" win.
"Fresh Look" is the term given to the FCC order that allows AT&T customers under AT&T Tariff 12, Tariff 16 or SDN-NRA Express agreements to discontinue these agreements without financial penalty during the 90 days following the start of 800 portability on May 1. Boise Cascade will have transferred all of its 800 business from AT&T to MCI by July 29.
Under the terms of the agreement, MCI will provide a wide range of advanced services such as Vnet, MCI's virtual private network, which will link more than 150 Boise Cascade locations across North America. The company also has contracted for MCI data services, MCI 800 service for all its divisions, and an array of billing and reporting products.
"FCC's `Fresh Look' ruling gave Boise a unique opportunity to review its telecommunications services and requirements," said Ray Roark, Boise's manager of information systems and telecommunications. "We chose MCI because we owed it to our company and its stockholders to get the best service and technology available for the best price."
"As companies shop for the latest technologies and explore their telecommunications service options, we expect many other prominent corporations to follow Boise's lead in taking advantage of the `Fresh Look' and 800 Portability opportunities to select MCI," said Jonathon Crane, president of MCI National Accounts.
In a $15 million agreement announced in April, Ceridian Corporation became the first AT&T SDN-NRA customer to switch its domestic and international traffic to MCI. Ceridian is an information management and employer services company based in Minneapolis.
Boise Cascade Corporation is an integrated paper and forest products company headquartered in Boise, Idaho, with operations located in the United States and Canada. The company manufactures and distributes paper and paper products, office products, and building products and owns and manages timberland to support these operations.
MCI, headquartered in Washington, D.C., offers a full range of domestic and global telecommunications services through one of the world's largest state-of-the-art networks. With 1992 revenue of $10.6 billion, the company is the second largest long distance company in the United States and has more than 60 overseas offices in 55 countries. MCI provides international calling from the U.S. to more than 260 countries.
