BOHS IN TOTO NO-NO.
InterToto Cup - 2nd rd, 2nd leg 2-2 on aggregate, Riga win on away goals
BOHEMIANS were sent crashing out of Europe last night thanks to a goal worthy of winning the Champions League itself.
Grigory Chirkin's 65th-minute volley was as good a strike as Dalymount Park has seen - but it was as cruel as it was beautiful, as it came against the run of play in a game Bohs dominated.
It was also more than the ungracious Latvians deserved, and their post-match taunting and scuffles will have earned them few fans among the neutrals.
Bohs cancelled out Riga's first-leg lead with Jason McGuinness's goal in the first half, and bagged a late Killian Brennan penalty before Owen Heary was sent off for a 'last man' foul. But all of that late drama proved to be irrelevant after Chirkin's away goal settled the tie in favour of the visitors.
Bohemians had come close to opening the scoring in the third minute when Heary narrowly missed Brennan's cross.
And their early pressure paid off as the first goal arrived on 21 minutes, McGuinness rising to head home Brennan's free-kick.
Riga keeper Sergejs Cepcugovs kept his side in the tie with a great double save from Heary and Glen Crowe before Chirkin volleyed home spectacularly.
