BOEING WINS NON-LINE OF SIGHT -- COMBINED ARMS CONTRACT
HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Sept. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Army Missile Command has awarded a $2.5 million preliminary demonstration and validation analysis contract to the Boeing Defense & Space Group, Missiles & Space Division.
The eight-month study contract will involve system analysis and trade studies in preparation for the development of the Army's future Non-Line Of Sight -- Combined Arms (NLOS-CA) system, commonly known as the fiber optic guided missile (FOG-M).
Work on the contract will begin immediately. The contract will employ an estimated 15 Boeing employees in Huntsville and will involve over 20 different subcontractors.
This preliminary contract will lead to a demonstration and validation proposal phase in mid-1993, resulting in a mid-1994 contract award for the next phase of the program.
Boeing has 10 years of experience in the fiber optic weapons field. The company has completed significant government contracted and company sponsored research and development of a host of fiber optic weapons that vary in system size and capabilities.
Jim Daniel has been named NLOS Combined Arms program manager for the Missiles & Space Division.
