BOEING AWARDED SPACE SYSTEMS/LORAL CONTRACT

SEATTLE, May 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Boeing Technology Services (BTS) of Seattle, which is the marketing arm of Boeing laboratories, announced today it has entered into a long-term agreement to provide test services to Space Systems/Loral.
The initial work under this agreement, scheduled to start in the third quarter of 1993, will consist of thermal vacuum testing of an INTELSAT VII communication satellite.
As the predominant provider of transoceanic telephone and television services, the International Telecommunications Satellite Organization (INTELSAT) consists of more than 110 member nations that own and operate the communication system. The nine INTELSAT VII series satellites being built by Space Systems/Loral are high-powered, state-of-the-art satellites that have increased RF power, capacity and coverage to satisfy the growing need for digital services, smaller earth stations and specialized Intelsat communications services.
The tests will be performed at Boeing Defense & Space Group's Environmental Test Laboratories in Kent. The thermal vacuum chamber to be used is 39 feet in diameter by 50 feet high, a top-loading stainless steel chamber with full liquid nitrogen shrouding, and is utilized to test full-scale spacecraft. It provides space simulation of a 400-mile altitude, the heat sink of space and a solar simulator.
Since 1972, Boeing Technology Services has been marketing the available engineering resources of The Boeing Co. (NYSE: BA) to outside companies. Examples include: propulsion, wind tunnel, environmental, acoustics, structures, simulation, materials, test hardware design and fabrication, and technical consulting.
