BOEING ASKS FOR CLARIFICATION OF SPEEA PROPOSAL

SEATTLE, Jan. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- The Boeing Co. (NYSE: BA) said today it has requested an immediate meeting between its chief spokesman and the federal mediator to try to clarify what is and is not on the table in its negotiations with the Seattle Professional Engineering Employees Association (SPEEA).
Boeing chief spokesman Bob DeLappe said, "SPEEA's decision today to begin negotiations in the press has left us confused as to what their position is.
"For example," he said, "SPEEA announced today their proposal did not increase the money envelope, leading Boeing to believe that COLA was no longer on the table. But SPEEA also said today that COLA was still an issue. Similarly, Boeing previously was advised that a benefits issue was off the table. Today, SPEEA did not mention it as an issue that had been withdrawn.
"While our position is unchanged, that we have made our best and final offer, it is important to clearly understand what their proposal is," DeLappe added.
Boeing also stated that it is disappointed SPEEA's leadership has decided to call a one-day strike.
DeLappe said, "SPEEA's leadership has been sounding the call almost continuously for a year to prepare for a strike. It is our hope that once the leadership satisfies their need for a strike, they will consider making a concerted effort to gain approval of Boeing's offers."
