BOEING 737 DELIVERIES SET INDUSTRY RECORD

BOEING 737 DELIVERIES SET INDUSTRY RECORD
SEATTLE, Dec. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Boeing Commercial Airplane Group

today delivered its 215th and final 737 twinjet for 1991, setting a record for most commercial airplanes of a single type delivered in a year.
The previous record had stood since 1968 when McDonnell Douglas delivered 203 DC-9s.
The delivery capped an eventful year for the 737. In February, Lufthansa German Airlines, the first carrier to fly the twinjet in 1968, took delivery of the 2,000th 737. In October, British Airways flew off with the 1,000th new-generation 737, introduced into service 1984.
"The 737 has a long history of meeting customer needs," said Ron Woodard, vice president and general manager of Boeing Commercial Airplane Group's Renton Division, where the 737 is assembled. "Our achievements this year show the 737 continues to help our customers adapt to a changing air transportation environment."
Today the new-generation 737 family includes the 737-300, -400 and -500. These advanced technology twinjets are designed to be among the quietest and most fuel-efficient aircraft in the world. All three offer advanced structural materials, new corrosion-inhibiting techniques, advanced digital avionics technology, improved aerodynamics and high-bypass engines.
The 737 has ranked as the world's best-selling jetliner since 1987, when it eclipsed the previous best seller, the Boeing 727, which achieved total orders of 1,831 airplanes. Orders for the 737 program now total 2,953 airplanes.
