BOARD NAMED, SITE PURCHASED FOR TOYOTA-URBAN LEAGUE AUTOMOTIVE TRAINING CENTER

 LOS ANGELES, Jan. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- The acquisition of the site for the Los Angeles Urban League Automotive Training Center -- a joint venture between the Los Angeles Urban League and Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. -- was announced at the center's first board meeting.
 In November, Toyota, in partnership with the Urban League, announced the establishment of a non-profit, vocational Automotive Training Center which will recruit, train and place Los Angeles-area residents in entry-level automotive repair jobs. The program represents a commitment of $3 million from Toyota.
 The training facility will be located at 3833 Crenshaw Boulevard, in the Crenshaw District of Los Angeles. The 25,000-square-foot property, formerly an auto dealership, features a 17,000-square-foot building.
 The minority-owned architecture firm of Jenkins, Gales & Martinez Inc., of Los Angeles, has been retained to do the design work to refurbish the existing building. The training center is scheduled to open in late spring 1993.
 "The Automotive Training Center will help create training and job opportunities for Los Angeles-area minority residents and businesses, and expanding Urban League's greatly needed services," said John W. Mack, president of the Los Angeles Urban League.
 Management of the training center and its staff will be carried out by
Walter Zuschlag, general manger. Victor LeBlue, former manager of the Los Angeles Urban League Data Processing Training Center, was recently appointed assistant general manager.
 "Toyota's decision to establish the automotive training program resulted after discussions with RLA (Rebuild L.A.) and extensive planning with the Los Angeles Urban League," said Douglas M. West, Toyota Motor Sales vice president and general counsel-product law.
 The Automotive Training Center will be turned over to the Urban League during a three-year period. At that time, the Urban League will assume full financial and administrative responsibility.
 The center's seven-member board of directors includes:
 -- Benjamin Aranda, judge of the Municipal Court, South Bay Judicial District;
 -- Bob Best, Toyota group vice president, finance and administration;
 -- Sandra Carter, Los Angeles Urban League vice president of programs;
 -- Richard Gallio, Toyota vice president, parts, service and U.S. products;
 -- Joy Hawkins-Smith, president of Joy Hawkins & Associates and Los Angeles Urban League board member;
 -- George D. Kieffer, partner, Manatt, Phelps, Rothenberg & Phillips and Los Angeles Urban League board member; and
 -- Douglas M. West, Toyota vice president and general counsel- product law.
