BMW SALES CONTINUE TO ACCELERATE WITH NEW MODELS UNDER $30,000
WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J., June 2 /PRNewswire/ -- BMW posted its best sales month since December 1990 in May with 6,005 retail sales, a 35-percent increase from a year ago. Year-to-date sales now total 24,686, up 24 percent from 1991.
"BMW has responded to the market with exciting, new, competitively priced automobiles," stated Karl H. Gerlinger, president of BMW North America, "and we are very encouraged by the positive consumer reaction." Gerlinger reported that BMW's new 3-Series models, two coupes, two sedans and one convertible -- all priced under $30,000 -- accounted for 3,163 sales.
May also saw the first retail sales of the 525i Touring, BMW's first sports wagon. It carries a suggested retail price of $38,600.
"Sales of the entire line have increased month after month and BMW is optimistic that it will break through our 60,000 sales goal by the end of the year," Gerlinger added.
