BMC WEST CORP. ACQUIRES MONTANA UNIT

BOISE, Idaho, Oct. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- BMC West Corp. (NASDAQ: BMCW), a regional distributor and retailer of building materials, is entering the Montana market with the acquisition of Poulsen's Inc. in Great Falls, Mont.
BMC West is acquiring the assets of Poulsen's Inc., a leading distributor and retailer of building materials in north central Montana, for an undisclosed amount of cash and BMC West stock. The purchase is expected to be completed by early November.
"We have been looking at Montana for some time," said Donald S. Hendrickson, BMC West president and chief executive officer, "and Poulsen's provides us an excellent opportunity to enter this market."
"The Great Falls market, which serves a larger retail area in northern Montana and across the Canadian border, is showing stable growth," Hendrickson explained. Noting that Poulsen's outstanding performance in this market is a reflection on its employees, Hendrickson said that all existing personnel will be offered jobs with BMC West.
Last month, BMC West announced the acquisition of five retail building materials centers in central Texas from Lowe's Home Centers Inc. The purchase of those units was finalized on Sept. 20, 1993.
"We expect to continue growing by increasing our market share in areas where we are now doing business, as well as by entering new markets in the West such as Montana," said Hendrickson.
The acquisition will increase the number of BMC West's building materials centers to 39 in nine states. The company currently has operations in Colorado, Washington, Idaho, central California, Utah, Oregon, Nevada and Texas.
Annual revenues in 1992 were $291 million.
