BMC WEST ACQUIRES SAWTOOTH DOOR CO.

BOISE, Idaho, May 21 /PRNewswire/ -- BMC West Corp. (NASDAQ: BMCW), a leading regional distributor and retailer of building materials in the western United States, announced today that it is acquiring a company with pre-hung door production facilities in two Idaho cities.
BMC has signed a definitive purchase and sale agreement to acquire the assets of Sawtooth Door Co., with facilities in Twin Falls and Boise, Idaho. The transaction is scheduled to close during the month of May. Sawtooth has annual sales of approximately $4 million and has been providing pre-hung doors and other wood trim products to professional contractors for the past 17 years, according to Donald S. Hendrickson, BMC president and chief executive officer.
"The sale of pre-hung doors and wood trim products is a growing part of our business," said Hendrickson. "This acquisition further adds to our ability to provide a greater selection of products to our professional contractor customers.
"The Twin Falls location gives us entry into a new market, increasing BMC West's geographic penetration in Idaho," Hendrickson explained.
As part of its expansion plans in the value-added products business, in 1992 BMC West began the enhancement of its existing door facilities in Spokane, Wash.; Idaho Falls, Idaho; and Orem, Utah. The company is currently adding pre-hung door facilities in Beaverton, Ore.; Fresno, Calif.; and Lewiston, Idaho -- all of these locations will be fully operational in 1993.
BMC West, founded in 1987, distributes building materials products primarily to professional contractors as well as advanced, service- oriented consumers. The company operates 32 building materials centers in Washington, Colorado, Idaho, central California, Utah, Oregon, western Texas, and Nevada. Annual revenues in 1992 were $291 million.
