DETROIT, Sept. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- The following was released by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Michigan:
Approximately 3,400 Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Michigan bargaining unit employees represented by four United Auto Worker locals across the state went on strike at 9:30 a.m. today.
The remaining 3,600 non-bargaining unit workers and their supervisors will be reassigned to handle essential functions of claims processing and payments. The company will not be able to maintain telephone inquiry service or walk-in office service, however.
Customers and subscribers are asked to submit important inquiries in writing. These inquiries will be reviewed, prioritized and the most critical will be answered first.
The company will continue to work to resolve all remaining issues in a new contract in a spirit of cooperation and goodwill.
