BLUES' CAREGIVING PROGRAM RECEIVES TOP HONORS
DETROIT, May 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Blue Cross and Blue Shield of

Michigan (BCBSM) was honored today by the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) for developing an extensive support program for employees providing assistance to an older relative or friend.
The AARP Partners in Eldercare Award was presented to the Blues' Employee Caregiving Program for addressing the problems and concerns of employees responsible for care and support of older adults. The health insurer is one of three organizations recognized by AARP this year in Michigan. The award was presented on the Capitol steps in Lansing by Horace Deets, executive director of AARP.
"We are very honored that our efforts were recognized," said Vicki Reilly, Blues manager of Community Affairs. "We developed our program in 1988 after a survey showed that more than a third of the employees responding were providing some type of care to an older dependent and were under stress in their role as caregiver."
The Blues' Employee Caregiving Program provides quarterly seminars, a quarterly newsletter, monthly "brown bag" luncheons and access to an "800" information and referral service called the Senior HelpLine.
