BLUE CROSS TO HONOR STATEWIDE SENIOR VOLUNTEER AWARD WINNERS

CLEVELAND, Dec. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Ohio (BCBSO) will recognize six outstanding senior volunteers from around the state for their service to other seniors at the John Mannix Hall of Honor luncheon on Feb. 9 at the Statler Office Tower, Cleveland. A limited number of discounted tickets for the luncheon are available to the public for $5 each. Advance reservations are necessary.
Honorees are: Viva Barthel, Louisville; Rosa Bernice Cepek, Parma; Robert Jones, Cleveland; Gertrude Postma, Lakewood; Mary June Trott, Montpelier, and Marie Webb, Springfield.
One of the six, to be announced at the luncheon, will be named to the permanent Mannix Hall of Honor at corporate headquarters. Mannix, a founding father of America's Blue Cross plans, including the Cleveland- based plan, was an active health-care advocate until his death in 1990 at the age of 87.
"Our senior winners, who mirror the Mannix legend by enhancing the quality of life of other seniors, create their own prescription for a long and healthy life by helping others. We hope this event says 'thank you' and encourages others to follow their lead," said John Burry Jr., BCBSO chairman and chief executive officer.
The BCBSO Voluntary Senior Advisory Councils, which are sponsoring the award for the third consecutive year, selected the six finalists and nine honorable mention winners from statewide nominations submitted by senior center coordinators throughout Ohio. Criteria included impact of the volunteers' work in helping other seniors achieve a healthier quality of life and heartfelt, selfless, giving spirit in grassroots volunteer activities.
Television personality Del Donahoo (WKYC-TV 3), who has served as master of ceremonies since the event's inception, will again preside.
Deadline for ticket reservations is Jan. 29. For more information, contact the Mannix Award Line, 216-696-8800.
