BLUE CROSS CHAIRMAN AND PRESIDENT BARONE TO OPEN

LABOR-MANAGEMENT CONFERENCE WITH CALL FOR LOCAL HEALTH CARE SOLUTIONS
PITTSBURGH, May 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Blue Cross of Western Pennsylvania (BCWP) President and Chairman of the Board Eugene Barone will call for a local "framework for solutions" to control rising health care costs in opening remarks at the Three Rivers Area Labor-Management Committee's Conference on Managing Health Care Costs, it was announced today.
Barone will address the conference at 8:30 a.m., Thursday, May 21, at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.
"We need to lay out a 'framework for solutions' that addresses the truly local nature of health care. Our goals should be to control rising costs and maintain the high quality of our medical system here in western Pennsylvania," Barone said. "We can best develop such a framework by returning to regional health planning, emphasizing progressive medical management and promoting greater individual responsibility through the adoption of healthier lifestyles."
Barone, who has been president of BCWP since 1984 and was recently elected chairman of BCWP's board of directors, noted that local health care system participants -- including insurers, physicians, hospitals, employers, labor and elected officials -- must come together to develop a framework that will facilitate health care reform and control costs in this region.
This second annual Three Rivers Area Labor-Management Committee's conference on Managing Health Care Costs runs through Friday afternoon.
