 BLUE CROSS/BLUE SHIELD HELPING HEARING-IMPAIRED SUBSCRIBERS
 CAMP HILL, Pa., Jan. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Hearing-impaired subscribers of Independence Blue Cross and Pennsylvania Blue Shield now have an easier time with getting answers to their health insurance claim inquiries.
 Telecommunication Devices for the Deaf (TDDs) have been added to Blue Shield's toll-free Customer Service telephone lines, joining Blue Cross' existing TDD network. The devices allow deaf persons to communicate through telephones by displaying messages with a keyboard and small display screen.
 "Our hearing impaired subscribers have requested such a service, and we're pleased to implement it statewide," said Gino Francavilla, vice president, customer service of Pennsylvania Blue Shield. "Providing quick, accurate information to customers is a daily priority that we're always looking for ways to improve on, and the addition of TDDs will do that."
 Requiring no voice communication, TDDs connect with a standard phone jack, have a keyboard, display screen and are portable. Many units include printers for preserving messages. Customer Service representatives will answer TDD calls on the following telephone numbers for the respective claims inquiries:
 Blue Shield medical/surgical claims: 800-345-3840
 Blue Shield dental claims: 800-345-3837
 Blue Shield 65 Special claims: 800-345-3816
 Independence Blue Cross hospital claims: 215-241-2499.
 Each number will be answered weekdays, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. During evenings, weekends and holidays, incoming messages will be recorded and returned by a customer service representative during business hours.
