BLOCKBUSTER ENTERTAINMENT NAMES JAMES L. HILMER SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT AND CHIEF MARKETING OFFICER

 FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Feb. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- James L. Hilmer, a veteran marketing executive who has worked with many of America's leading companies, has been named senior vice president and chief marketing officer for Blockbuster Entertainment Corporation (NYSE: BV), it was announced today by Steven R. Berrard, Blockbuster vice chairman and acting president and chief operating officer.
 Hilmer, 48, who began his duties today, will be responsible for the marketing programs for Blockbuster Entertainment Corporation and its related divisions.
 "Jim brings unique, broad-based marketing expertise to Blockbuster Entertainment Corporation and he will play a major role in our efforts to become a global entertainment company," Berrard said in announcing the appointment. "In his previous professional associations, his mission was to create programs for major companies seeking to do a better job of reaching their customer base and his role at Blockbuster will be to see tt? we utilize every opportunity to maximize our relationship with the entertainment consuming public worldwide."
 Hilmer has spent 24 years working at senior levels in marketing- related p?anies. He spent 15 years at Leo Burnett Co., a worldwide advertising agency, and was a senior vice president and management director when he left. In 1984, he joined Whittle Communications as its first division president as the Knoxville-based marketing firm began its major growth period. He also served as a member of the Whittle board of directors and was managing partner.
 During the past 24 years, he has worked closely with many of America's leading companies, including Procter & Gamble, Pillsbury, General Motors, Xerox, Anheuser-Busch and Seagrams.
 A native of Cincinnati, Hilmer studied at Cornell for four years before enrolling at Ohio State University where he received his bachelor science degree with a major in economics in 1969. He also completed the Harvard Business School program for management development in 1982. His early education was received in Cincinnati public schools and at Phillips Exeter Academy, Exeter, N.H.
 Hilmer and his wife Anne are parents of two children: Sarah, 15 and John, 11.
