BLACKHAT (15) .....
BLACKHAT (15) ..... DIRECTOR Michael Mann - who gave us the muchadmired Heat - turns his attention to the hot topic of cyber terrorism, but Blackhat turns out to be extremely tepid.
Chris Hemsworth is a computer whizz freed from prison by the Feds on the condition he helps bring down the criminals who've just used malware to blow up a Chinese power station.
Hemsworth, so good in Rush and as Thor in the Marvel movies, proves to be mean, moody and monotonous in a series of scenes that alternate between him staring, brow furrowed, into a computer screen and jetting around the Far East to shoot/thump/bottle the latest anonymous bad guy.
Meanwhile, his co-star (Tang Wei) is there merely to make doe-eyes at the handsome hacker. Her brother (played by Chinese music mega-star Wang Leehom) runs around quoting impenetrable lines about proxy servers and memory dumps before being killed by a car bomb.
Talking of bombs, Blackhat took just a 10th of its budget in the States.
