 BLACK & DECKER SELECTS THE WEIGHTMAN GROUP
 PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Black & Decker U.S. Accessories


has selected The Weightman Group to handle a new product assignment, according to John Goodchild, president and chief executive officer of the agency.
 The Weightman Group is working with Black & Decker (NYSE: BDK) to implement a fully integrated marketing program to launch Black & Decker's new 2 Temp(TM) glue gun which will be introduced to consumers in September 1992. Advertising for the unique high-temperature and low- temperature glue gun will target the fast-growing crafts market.
 Black & Decker, which for years has been a leading manufacturer of power tools and small consumer appliances, is now setting its sights on the crafts market segment. The two-temperature-in-one glue gun is a major element of the company's stepped-up involvement in this category.
 Jon Chamberlain, product manager of the Black & Decker's Consumer Fastening Products, said, "We were impressed with Weightman's presentation and, after a selection process which involved several other agencies, we decided that The Weightman Group had the freshest creative and proposed the most effective marketing strategy."
 "We're convinced that the comprehensive marketing plan we are developing with Weightman will let the crafts world know quickly and effectively that the Black & Decker 2 Temp(TM) glue gun is the product best able to meet crafters' gluing needs," Chamberlain continued. "Our glue gun will be a benefit to people who make a variety of crafts objects. Until now crafts enthusiasts needed a separate low-temperature glue gun for fragile materials like Styrofoam(R) or balloons, and a high-temperature glue gun for tougher objects such as wood or ceramics."
 The Black & Decker glue gun was introduced to the trade on July 16 at the Association of Craft and Creative Industries (ACCI) Show in Chicago. Weightman was involved in all marketing elements including an on-site trade show promotion, teaser mailings, and sales brochures. In addition, the launch plan calls for print ads, in-pack promotions and point-of-purchase materials.
 According to Goodchild, the agency is delighted to add the Black & Decker name to its account list. "We hope the success of our performance on this assignment will open the door to other opportunities with this prestigious client," Goodchild said. "The Weightman Group may be a Philadelphia-based agency -- and we love our city -- but we're also proud that we have a number of national accounts on our roster."
