BLACK & DECKER ELECTS MICHAEL N. HAMMES DIRECTOR AND VICE CHAIRMAN;
 DECLARES QUARTERLY DIVIDEND
 TOWSON, Md., Oct. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- The Black & Decker Corporation (NYSE: BDK) announced today that Michael N. Hammes, executive vice president of the corporation and president of the Power Tools and Home Products Group, has been elected a director and vice chairman of the board of the corporation.
 Hammes, who is 50, joined Black & Decker in May 1990, as an executive vice president of the corporation and president of its worldwide Power Tools and Accessories Group. Those responsibilities were subsequently broadened to include the household appliances and plumbing products businesses. In addition to his new board role, Hammes will continue with his current operating responsibilities.
 Before joining Black & Decker, Hammes was vice president- international operations for Chrysler Corporation, a position which capped a 25-year career in the automotive industry.
 Hammes also serves on the board of International Technology Corporation. He holds a B.S. degree in International Economics and Foreign Trade from the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service and an M.B.A. in finance from New York University.
 Nolan D. Archibald, chairman and chief executive officer, commented, "The election of Mike Hammes as vice chairman is in recognition of his significant contributions to our company. With his broad domestic and international experience, we are confident that Mike will continue to move our operations forward in the coming years."
 The election of Hammes brings the Black & Decker board to 11 members.
 The corporation announced that the board of directors declared a regular quarterly cash dividend of $.10 per common share, payable Dec. 24, 1992, to stockholders of record on Dec. 10, 1992.
 Black & Decker is a global marketer and manufacturer of quality products used in and around the home and for commercial applications and a major supplier of information systems and services to government and commercial clients.
