 BLACK & DECKER ELECTS CANDLISH TO BOARD OF DIRECTORS
 TOWSON, Md., Dec. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- The Black & Decker Corporation (NYSE: BDK) announced today that Malcolm Candlish, chairman, president and chief executive officer and a director of Sealy, Inc., has been elected to Black & Decker's board of directors and appointed to the board's audit committee.
 Sealy, a privately held company based in Cleveland, is the world's largest manufacturer of conventional bedding. Before joining Sealy in 1989, Candlish was president and chief executive officer of the Samsonite corporation for six years. From 1977 through 1983, Candlish was associated with Wilson Sporting Goods, then a subsidiary of Pepsico. After holding senior international management and marketing positions, he was elected president of Wilson Sporting Goods in 1983.
 Candlish, 56, is a graduate of the London School of Economics.
 Welcoming Candlish to the board of directors, Nolan D. Archibald, chairman and chief executive officer of Black & Decker stated: "Mr. Candlish adds valuable experience in international management and consumer durables marketing to our Board. He is a dynamic executive who is widely respected for his operating strengths, and we look forward to working with him."
 Candlish brings the number of directors on Black & Decker's board to eleven.
 Black & Decker is a global marketer and manufacturer of quality products used in and around the home and for commercial applications and a major supplier of information systems and services to government and commercial clients.
