BLACK & DECKER ANNOUNCES NEW FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

 TOWSON, Md., Dec. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- The Black & Decker Corporation (NYSE: BDK) announced today that Stephen F. Page, executive vice president and chief financial officer, has resigned to become executive vice president and chief financial officer of United Technologies Corporation, a $21 billion industrial company based in Connecticut.
 Page's duties will be assumed by Michael S. Karsner, 34, vice president and treasurer, and Thomas M. Schoewe, 40, vice president- finance, each of whom will report directly to Nolan D. Archibald, chairman and chief executive officer.
 Karsner, who joined Black & Decker in 1983, will assume responsibility for tax planning and compliance in addition to his current functions, which include all treasury activities as well as pension and insurance management.
 Schoewe, who joined Black & Decker in 1986 and is currently in charge of accounting and control, information systems, and business planning, will assume additional responsibilities for internal auditing.
 Commenting on the moves, Archibald said, "We wish Steve well in his new post and thank him for the many contributions he has made to Black & Decker during the past 20 years. He leaves in place a team of talented and seasoned professionals who have played major roles in our financial activities. Because of the strength of the organization, we will not replace Steve, but will reorganize our corporate financial operations under Mike Karsner and Tom Schoewe, who have been instrumental in planning and executing our financial strategies in recent years."
 Black & Decker is a global marketer and manufacturer of quality products used in and around the home and for commercial applications and a major supplier of information systems and services to government and commercial clients.
