BJP pins jungle raj label on Nitish- Lalu.
K EEPING the Bihar Assembly election in focus, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday sought to hit out at Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his alliance partner Rashtriya Janata Dal president Lalu Prasad for their association with the Congress, on the 40th anniversary of the imposition of Emergency in the country.
Accusing Nitish and Lalu of betraying Jayaprakash Narayan, the BJP leaders said that both the disciples of the great socialist leader had aligned with the Congress despite the fact that the party had imposed Emergency in the country. " We were all part of a movement launched by the late JP against the Emergency but some of his followers have joined hands with the Congress now,"Union Minister for Telecommunication Ravi Shankar Prasad said.
Prasad said that JP had given a slogan to weed out corruption. " JP had many disciples.
One of them remained the chief minister for long. During his reign, corruption was at its zenith. JP's second disciple has now joined hands with the first and they are together with the Congress which has never sincerely apologised for the Emergency,"he said while referring to Lalu and Nitish, respectively.
Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertlisers Ananth Kumar, who is also the party's incharge of Bihar for the upcoming Assembly elections, said that Nitish and Lalu were dreaming about ushering in the ' jungle raj- 3' in Bihar in col-
tributes to JP every year on the anniversary of the imposition of Emergency but he had joined hands with the same Congress which was responsible for it. " It is an act of deceit and betrayal against JP by Nitish and Lalu for which the people of Bihar will punish them,"he said.
Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh said that it was surprising that the followers of JP had the moral courage to join which had pushed JP into jail.
A book, Beech Samar Mein ( In the midst of the war), written by senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi was also released during the day. The book features Sushil's experiences during the Emergency when he was lodged in prison as well as the 15- year- long RJD regime.
" The new generation is not aware of the students' movement and the Emergency. This book will give them some idea about the difficult times which the country has gone through,"Sushil said.
lusion with the Congress.
" Imposition of the Emergency by the Congress was the first instance of the jungle raj in the country which was followed by the ' jungle raj- 2' of the RJD regime of Lalu Prasad,"he said.
" Now, Lalu and Nitish want to usher in the jungle raj- 3 with the Congress. But the people of Bihar will foil their designs,"he said.
