BITRONICS INC. AND MODICON INC. ANNOUNCE MODCONNECT PARTNERSHIP; MULTIFUNCTION POWER MONITOR WITH MODBUS PLUS INTERFACE NOW AVAILABLE

BETHLEHEM, Penn., Sept. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Bitronics Inc. and Modicon Inc. today announced Bitronics' status as a certified ModConnect(R) automation partner, enabling Bitronics MultiPlus(TM) multifunction power measurement instruments to be connected directly to Modicon Modbus Plus(TM) high-speed networks. Certification marks a formalized partnership between Modicon, an industry leader in automation, control and data acquisition products, and Bitronics, a manufacturer of high- quality digital panel instruments used for measuring electrical quantities in harsh environments.
Modicon, with its 984 Family of programmable controllers, will provide state-of-the-art process control and connectivity solutions, while Bitronics will provide compatible instruments to measure and display volts, amps, watts and vars in three-phase electrical systems, according to Dr. Vincent Horvath, president of Bitronics. "Together, the companies' complementary products will allow customers to implement powerful distributed systems to monitor and control electric power," Horvath continued. Typical applications include electric utility substation and industrial power management operations.
Bitronics MultiPlus instruments use field-proven technology to provide true RMS electrical measurements with 0.25 percent Class accuracy in a rugged, compact package. All inputs are fully isolated to provide a high degree of immunity to electrical surges. Three integral, high-efficiency LED displays show local information and allow instant comparison of corresponding per-phase quantities. Self-diagnostic checks are made automatically to further insure measurement integrity. MultiPlus instruments, usable in a wide range of electrical systems, also feature "push-button" rescaling, an extensive internal library of transformer ratios, and a universal AC/DC power supply.
Modicon's Modbus Plus communications technology, integrated into MultiPlus instruments, is designed to meet the exacting standards required by Modicon to earn ModConnect certification. Certification insures that the instrument is fully compatible with, and seamlessly connects to Modbus Plus networks. The latter combines one megabaud communications with a simple twisted-pair cable to provide cost- effective network solutions. Typical applications include control networks, data acquisition, and program upload/download. A single network can support up to 32 MultiPlus instruments at distances up to 1500 feet, and can be expanded to accommodate added instruments and longer distances.
Modicon Inc., based in North Andover, Mass., is a leading worldwide manufacturer of programmable logic controllers and automation products. Bitronics Inc., headquartered in Bethlehem, is a leading supplier of high-quality digital panel instruments to electric utilities throughout the United States.
