BISON DATA AND COMPTEK ANNOUNCE MULTIPROTOCOL DATAMOVER(TM)

BUFFALO, N.Y., Feb. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Bison Data Corporation and Comptek Research, Inc. (AMEX: CTK) today announced the addition of multiprotocol models to the DataMover(TM) line of metropolitan area network wireless data communication products sold by Bison Data. The DataMover is designed and manufactured by Comptek Telecommunications, Inc. The new models, the DM2000MP and the DM2019MP, have data transmission rates of 9.6 kbps and 19.2 kbps, respectively, and allow users to connect multiple terminals running on different protocols to the same DataMover unit. The multiprotocol models will be available for shipment by the last week of February.
Joseph Wolfson, president and CEO of Bison Data, stated, "Many customers have the need to connect diverse applications such as automated teller machines (ATMs), loan systems, platform automation or electronic mail to the same DataMover unit. These new products will satisfy that need in a cost effective way." He added, "Although we expect to sell many multiprotocol DataMovers domestically, we believe the bulk of demand will come from the international market where DataMover networks are often the only source of reliable electronic data communication.
"The DataMover makes it possible to remotely monitor inventory levels, verify credit card transactions and interconnect ATMs, services which were not economical previously because of the high cost or lack of reliable telephone service in many parts of the world."
The DataMover(TM), which is manufactured exclusively by Comptek for sale through Bison Data Corporation, uses patented software and advanced digital technology to transmit "bursty" data via radio waves within large metropolitan areas. Among the advantages of the DataMover(TM) is that the network can accommodate large numbers of participants using multiple protocols simultaneously; multiple clients using major protocols such as ASYNC, IBM 3270 and SDLC can use the network without the need for custom software.
The DataMover(TM) is being marketed in the United States by Bison Data directly and through a network of distributors in Latin America, South America, the Far East, China and Russia.
Comptek Research, Inc. (AMEX: CTK), the parent firm of Comptek Telecommunications, is an international supplier of technically advanced electronics and data communication systems to government and industry. Bison Data is a joint venture between Comptek Telecommunications, Joseph Wolfson, Rand Capital (NASDAQ: RAND) and Bydatel Corporation.
