BIRTH REGISTRATIONS NO LONGER ACCEPTED BY PENNDOT FOR DRIVER'S LICENSE APPLICATION

HARRISBURG, Pa., March 12 /PRNewswire/ -- The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will no longer accept birth registration notices as proof of age from persons applying for a learner's permit or a driver's license.
A birth registration notice is an interim document issued by the Department of Health stating that a birth certificate is about to be issued.
"Because the driver's license is the primary form of identification used by most people, we felt it necessary that we exercise extra care in the types of identification we accept to support the driver licensing application procedure," said Mario D. Pirritano, PennDOT deputy secretary for safety administration.
Pirritano said that birth registrations can be easily subject to fraud.
PennDOT will continue to accept as proof of age an original or certified copy of one of the following documents:
 -- birth certificate
 -- passport
-- certificate of U.S. citizenship or naturalization
-- marriage record with date of birth
 -- military identification card
-- official Pennsylvania photo identification card, issued by PennDOT for non-drivers
 -- alien registration card
 -- expired Pennsylvania driver's license
 -- expired Pennsylvania learner's permit
-- driver's license from another state when surrendered or expired.
