BIRD STRESSES COMPETITIVE LEADERSHIP STRATEGY FOR A SLUGGISH ECONOMY
DEDHAM, Mass., June 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Bird Corporation (NASDAQ: BIRD), at its regular analyst meetings held in Boston and New York, stressed the completion of its successful restructuring, improved competitiveness, financial strength and its relatively strong performance in 1991 in the worst building materials market since World War II as the foundations for success in the intensely competitive environment envisioned in a slow growth economy.
Bird looks forward to the bottom-line benefits to be achieved from its gains in market share and the integration of the several acquisitions made during 1991 both in the housing and environmental fields. Sales have already increased substantially as a result of this acquisition program and improved profitability will result from the current intensive integration efforts.
In the short term, Bird's building products manufacturing activities are experiencing competitive margin pressure resulting from the unusually slow recovery. While this is disappointing for the immediate quarterly comparisons and could hold Bird's 1992 earnings to near last year's levels, Bird's improved and expanded business base, together with some expected economic growth, should generate substantially higher earnings in 1993 and beyond.
Bird continues to look for additional synergistic acquisitions which could further enhance earnings growth.
Bird Corporation is a US-based manufacturer and distributor of building materials products and a provider of environmental services.
