 BIPIN C. SHAH TO JOIN MELLON BANK CORPORATION
 PITTSBURGH, Feb. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Bipin C. Shah, former chief


operating officer of CoreStates Financial Corp., will join Mellon Bank Corporation (NYSE: MEL) as executive vice president in charge of Information Management & Research, Technology Products and Network Services effective March 2, 1992, it was announced today.
 Shah will report directly to W. Keith Smith, vice chairman of Mellon's Service Products sector, and have management responsibility for Mellon's computer operations as well as its cash management, ATM processing and merchant payment processing businesses.
 "Bipin brings exceptional credentials to this position," Smith said. "His background as an executive with both broad banking experience and expertise in technology makes him uniquely suited to his new responsibilities. This appointment provides further evidence of Mellon's ongoing commitment to building upon our prominent position in Service Products. Bipin has a demonstrated ability to build businesses and we will be looking to expand the businesses for which he is responsible."
 As chief operating officer for CoreStates -- a position he held until February 1991 -- Shah supervised its consumer, operations and technology, trust, and international business units. Prior to his COO appointment, he served for seven years as executive vice president for CoreStates' Technology and Operating Group, and for three years in a similar position for CoreStates' lead bank, Philadelphia National Bank.
 Before his 11 years with CoreStates, Shah served as senior vice president for the card division of American Express Company from 1979 to 1980 and was a senior vice president for the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia from 1974 to 1978. He also was president of Vertex Systems, Inc. from 1970 to 1974.
 With assets of approximately $30 billion, Mellon Bank Corporation is a major superregional bank holding company. Through its subsidiaries, it provides wholesale, middle market and retail banking as well as numerous service products including trust and investment, cash management and financial data processing.
