BIPD to hold municipal leaders' roundtable.

Manama, Sept. 11 (BNA): Bahrain Institute for Political Development (BIPD) is holding on Thursday a roundtable on municipal leadership traits.

The seminar aims at developing skills and techniques of leadership and strengthening proficiency of heads of the municipal councils and their deputies, within the "Municipal Skills" programme.

The event highlights leadership skills through several themes including the concept of leadership, essential skills necessary, how to manage meetings and sessions, and the role of leadership in management of crises and problem solving; in order to familiarize the member of the municipal councils with the basic of leadership traits. It highlights the role of municipal leaders in the development of creative thinking, communication skills, capacity evolving to take sound decisions and solve problems that could hinder efficient municipal activities.

Thursday's symposium will be co-presented by Ahlia University's Law Professor Ahmed Farhan; and Raed Al Jowder Associate Professor in Engineering at the University of Bahrain.

The lecturers underscore the competencies of heads and deputy heads of Municipal Councils, in accordance with the Law of Municipalities and bylaws, constitutional and legal frameworks specific to the competencies of the Municipal Councils, powers of Municipal Councils and the Capital Trustees Board, as well as the mechanism of work of municipal councils to exercise their supervisory powers.

They will familiarize the audience with the rules of procedure of the council, and raise the skill of members in the interpretation and drafting of the administrative decision, so as to enable the correct use of the terms of reference of the Council.

This roundtable comes within the framework of the cooperation deal signed between the Bahrain Institute for Political Development and the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning. It aims to enable members of municipal councils and the Municipality of the capital to exercise their social and service role in a manner that contributes to the improvement of the service and social conditions in the Kingdom.

The BIPD has striven to activate the agreement through the provision of a variety of workshops and training courses, aimed at supporting the experience of municipal councils, and the development of their performance to contribute to provide the best services and support programs and projects sustainability.
