 ROCHESTER, N.Y., Oct. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- George Fisher joined Motorola in 1976, after 10 years in Research and Development at Bell Telephone Laboratories. After serving as Director of Manufacturing Systems in Motorola's Communications Products Division in Schaumburg, Ill., he moved on to management positions in Fort Worth, Texas, and Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He was appointed Vice President and General Manager of the Communications Sector's Paging Division in Fort Lauderdale in 1981.
 He returned to Schaumburg in April 1984 as Senior Vice President and Assistant General Manager of the Communications Sector. Fisher was elected Senior Executive Vice President and Deputy to the Chief Executive Office in July 1986 and a Director of Motorola in August 1986. He became President and Chief Executive Officer in 1988, and was elected Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer in 1990.
 Fisher is a senior member of IEEE and has been active in civic, educational and community affairs. He is on the Board of Fellows of Brown University, the Board of Directors of the University of Illinois Foundation, and the Board of Trustees of the National Urban League. He is chairman of the U.S. Council on Competitiveness, and is a member of the Policy Committee of the Business Roundtable and the Business Council. He has been active in U.S./International trade issues through advisory groups to the U.S. Trade Representative and Secretary of Commerce. These include past chairmanship of the Industry Policy Advisory Committee (IPAC) and current participation on the Advisory Council for Trade Policy and Negotiations (ACTPN). In 1988, Electronic Business magazine selected Fisher as one of the 12 most admired executives in the electronics industry. He also was cited as one Business Week's Managers of the Year for 1989. He is on the Board of Directors of American Express Co. and the 3M Corporation. In 1993, he was elected a member of the Trilateral Commission and a fellow of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences.
 Born in Anna, Ill., he received a bachelor's degree in Engineering at the University of Illinois and both a master's degree in Engineering ('64) and a doctorate in Applied Mathematics ('66) from Brown University.
