BIOGEN ANNOUNCES RESIGNATION OF DR. ROBERT J. GERETY, VICE PRESIDENT -DEVELOPMENT OPERATIONS

 CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Oct. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Biogen, Inc. (NASDAQ: BGEN) announced the resignation of Robert J. Gerety, M.D., Ph.D., as vice president-development operations. Gerety will become executive vice president of ImmuLogic (NYSE: IMUL), a biotechnology company based in Waltham, Mass.
 Jim Vincent, Biogen's chairman, commented, "Bob's distinguished career has included experience in the public and private sectors and with major pharmaceutical houses as well as with Biogen. He made many contributions to Biogen's growth. We will miss him and wish him continued success in his endeavors."
 Gerety's responsibilities for Biogen's regulatory affairs, toxicology and development operations will be taken over by Dr. Irvin Smith, vice president, QA/QC and Drug Development. Smith joined the company in August 1993 from Bioferon, Biogen's former joint venture in Germany.
 Biogen, Inc. headquartered in Cambridge, Mass., is a biopharmaceutical company principally engaged in developing and manufacturing drugs for human healthcare through genetic engineering. The company's revenues are generated from the worldwide sales by licensees of five products, including alpha interferon and hepatitis B vaccines and diagnostic products. Biogen is focused primarily on developing and testing products for the treatment of cardiovascular disease, inflammatory diseases, AIDS, and other cancers and viruses.
