BIODYNAMICS ANNOUNCES RELEASE DATE FOR PLATELETPLUS AUTOTRANSFUSION SYSTEM

TAMPA, Fla., March 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Biodynamics International, Inc. (NASDAQ: BDYN) announced today that its blood reprocessing device, the PlateletPlus(TM), will be commercially introduced in the U.S. this May. The product is being manufactured and marketed by Advanced Haemotechnologies ("AHT"). AHT is the Houston area based partnership owned equally by Biodynamics and Surgimedics/TMP, a wholly owned subsidiary of Surgimedics, Inc.
The PlateletPlus system's primary application is designed for the autotransfusion of blood. Autotransfusion is the collection, treatment and reinfusion of an individual's own blood lost during surgery or trauma. The company estimates the current market for autotransfusion blood processing systems is approximately $160 million, growing at approximately 15 percent per year.
"The PlateletPlus autotransfusion system offers the surgeon a technologically advanced product which preserves a significant percentage of the patient's platelets, while eliminating potential exposure to possible donor contaminants such as AIDS and hepatitis," stated John V. Hargiss, president of Biodynamics.
AHT will coordinate all marketing efforts which will initially be aimed at the important open heart surgery market segment. During this first phase, sales of the systems to hospitals will be conducted directly by AHT.
Biodynamics International, Inc. provides specialty surgical products to the neuro, orthopedic, cardiovascular, plastic and reconstructive surgical specialties. The company is a Florida corporation with executive offices in Tampa, Fla.
