BIO-VASCULAR NAMES SCHANKERELI DIRECTOR OF RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

 ST. PAUL, Minn., Jan. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Bio-Vascular, Inc. (NASDAQ: BVAS), has named Kemal Schankereli to the newly created position of director of research and development. He has more than 15 years experience in biomaterials and medical products, most recently as an R&D manager for St. Jude Medical, Inc.
 Schankereli served St. Jude for nearly eight years as manager of biomaterials/vascular graft research and development. In that position, he coordinated internal and external research programs, evaluated new technologies for possible acquisition, and prepared data for submission to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). He also directed development of small-diameter vascular grafts, which included the use of bioactive coatings to improve graft performance.
 Prior to joining St. Jude, Schankereli served for five years as a senior research scientist for Meadox Medicals, Inc., Oakland, N.J. Much of his work at Meadox also focused on synthetic graft technology, including research on biological and synthetic coatings used as preclotting agents for polyester vascular prostheses.
 He was an R&D technician for Machida America, Inc., Norwood, N.J., and began his career in 1974 as a chemist with G.A.F., Inc., Wayne, N.J.
 Schankereli and collaborators hold two U.S. and two European patents for biomedical devices and processes, and have applied for four U.S. patents that are pending. He holds a master's degree in molecular biology from Montclair State College, Montclair, N.J.; and a bachelor's degree in biology from Fairleigh Dickinson University, Teaneck, N.J.
 Bio-Vascular, Inc., based in St. Paul, is a manufacturer and marketer of proprietary consumable medical products for cardiac and vascular surgery.
