BIO-IMAGING TECHNOLOGIES, INC. WINS CONTRACTS WORTH $770,000

WEST TRENTON, N.J. March 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Bio-Imaging Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: BITI), a company providing specialized research and consulting services to the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device industries, announced today that the company has signed new project contracts with Organon Teknika/Biotechnology Research Institute (a part of Akzo N.V., the Netherlands; NASDAQ: AKZO), Medco Research, Inc. (Los Angeles, Calif.; AMEX: MRE) and a third unspecified client. The combined value of the contracts is $770,000.
Bio-Imaging Technologies will provide clinical research, technical and regulatory support services for the newly announced contracts using the company's proprietary medical imaging and image-processing technology. Bio-Imaging Technologies will assist each client through application of computerized image analysis techniques to evaluate drug efficacy.
The Organon Teknika project includes computerized image processing of data from a Phase III clinical trial for a radiolabeled human monoclonal antibody imaging agent under development by Organon Teknika/Biotechnology Research Institute.
Medco Research contracted Bio-Imaging Technologies to serve as a core laboratory for image processing and computerized analysis of myocardial imaging data related to a therapeutic product. Under a previously announced collaboration, Bio-Imaging Technologies is also assisting Medco in the clinical development and regulatory review of IPPA, a new imaging agent to detect "hibernating" myocardial tissue in patients with severe coronary disease.
The third contract will involve computerized image analysis of a topical medication.
William J. Fitzpatrick, president and COO of Bio-Imaging Technologies, said "these three new contracts with major pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies indicate growing interest in the application of advanced medical imaging technologies to facilitate clinical testing and regulatory review, particularly as healthcare cost-containment pressures place greater emphasis on the need to accelerate product development and approval."
Bio-Imaging Technologies, Inc. of West Trenton, N.J., provides specialized research and consulting services to pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device companies. The company applies advanced technologies such as magnetic resonance imaging, nuclear medicine and fiberoscopy to visualize and measure drug and medical device effects during the clinical development and pre-clinical testing process. The company's technology helps to accelerate the development and regulatory review of new therapeutic and diagnostic agents and devices by providing more precise analyses from a smaller number of study subjects. The company also applies its technology to develop computerized regulatory submissions and image-based medical communications.
