BILATERAL AGREEMENTS.

The executive campaign for the upcoming elections involving the Bilateral Agreements between Switzerland and the EU has begun. According to the campaign, the Bilateral Agreements would improve the Swiss standard of living, ensure environmentally sound transportation policies and improve the status of Switzerland in Europe. The Bundesr[ddot{a}]te expressed praise for the Bilateral Agreements. Bundesrat Josef Deiss described them as a chance for Switzerland," Moritz Leuenberger warned that a "no" to the Bilateral Agreements could result in internal political turmoil while Pascal Couchepin emphasized the financial benefits of the Agreements. However, members stressed that they still want nothing to do with becoming an actual member of the EU.
