BIGNET ANNOUNCES CORPORATE NAME CHANGE TO EXTREME ENTERTAINMENT GROUP INC.
SAN FRANCISCO, May 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Bignet U.S.A. (Bignet), a growing publisher of video-game software for the Sega Genesis and Sega Game Gear hardware platforms, today announced its official corporate name change to Extreme Entertainment Group Inc. (Extreme). The renamed company remains a wholly owned subsidiary of Sapporo, Japan- based Micronet Co. Ltd., a leading developer of entertainment software for more than a decade. Under its new banner, Extreme will leverage its software technology success in the Sega market -- the company's "Black Hole Assault" was the first third-party software title available for the Sega CD system -- to attack other proven hardware bases, such as the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). In addition, Extreme has targeted numerous unfolding interactive-entertainment delivery mediums like 3DO that are being driven by advances in CD-ROM technology. Steering the company in its new direction is video-game industry veteran Denny Thorley, who most recently served as vice president of marketing and product development for Data East U.S.A., one of the earliest and most successful players in the 8-bit Nintendo craze of the late 1980s. Under Thorley, Extreme has instituted an aggressive development program linking it with some of the most respected development houses in the world, such as Malibu Interactive with whom Extreme has inked a multi-title deal to develop video game properties based on popular comic book characters. Hoping to fuel its development resources with solid game concepts, Extreme will also pursue high-visibility properties and licenses for its line-up. Extreme recently announced its licensing agreement with world heavyweight boxing champion Riddick Bowe to develop a series of boxing games for North America, Europe and Japan. The first of these games will ship later this year for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. "Extreme Entertainment is well positioned to help shape the direction of the interactive entertainment market," said Thorley. "In addition to defining the caliber of gaming experience our consumers can expect, our corporate name and identity now reflect the expectations we've placed on ourselves." Extreme Entertainment Group Inc. is a growing developer and marketer of interactive-entertainment software for leading video-game hardware systems in North America. Headquartered in San Francisco, Extreme is a wholly owned subsidiary of Micronet Co. Ltd. of Sapporo, Japan. -0- 5/6/93 /CONTACT: Susan Donovan or Connie Viveros of Viveros and Associates, 415-364-7734, for Extreme Entertainment/
