BIG THREE TO BUILD AIR SEPARATION AND COGENERATION UNITS
 IN SOUTHEAST TEXAS
HOUSTON, March 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Big Three Industries, Inc., a U.S. subsidiary of Air Liquide, today announced plans to build an air separation plant and cogeneration facility valued at approximately $66 million in Port Neches, Texas.
The air separation unit will produce 4,200 tons-per-day of oxygen and nitrogen, and will be manufactured by Air Liquide's engineering division in North America and France. Most of the oxygen production will be used at the new propylene-oxide facility under construction by Texaco Chemical on an adjacent site. The rest of the unit's output will feed into the 1,019-mile Big Three Gulf Coast pipeline network, which supplies chemical, petrochemical and refinery complexes in Texas and Louisiana.
The gas turbine-powered cogeneration unit will generate 37 megawatts of electricity to be used primarily in the air separation unit. It will also produce 225,000 pounds-per-hour of steam for the Texaco Chemical facility.
The unit will be the second cogeneration facility operated by Air Liquide. Big Three's Bayport, Texas cogeneration facility generates 300 megawatts of electricity and 1,200,000 pounds-per-hour of steam. Air Liquide is currently working on other cogeneration projects in the United States and Europe.
These projects strengthen Air Liquide's position in the cogeneration and industrial gas pipeline industries. The company's pipeline network in the United States, Europe and the Far East totals more than 3,400 miles. Most of its capacity is dedicated to supplying oxygen, nitrogen and hydrogen under long-term contracts to the chemical, petrochemical, refinery and steel industries.
