Byline: Alan Marshall

SOL CAMPBELL has a fat chance of making his Newcastle debut against Rangers at Ibrox on Saturday.

The 35-year-old former England centre-half, who Neil Lennon failed to capture for Celtic this summer, wasn't risked in the Toon's 2-2 draw with PSV Eindhoven at St James's Park at the weekend.

Campbell, who has just returned from honeymoon, has bulked up since quitting Arsenal at the end of last season and is carrying extra weight.

Toon boss Chris Hughton said: "I am very hopeful Sol will be ready for the game against Rangers.

"Whether he will be in contention for our opening league game of the season against Manchester United is something we have to assess.

"The judgment call we have to make is the need for him to play and not take a risk with him."

One Magpies website said: "The manager said he didn't think Campbell would be ready to start against PSV.

"Judging by the belly on the man he won't be match fit until Christmas."
