BIG BOY RESTAURANTS TO HOLD VOTER REGISTRATION DRIVE

BIG BOY RESTAURANTS TO HOLD VOTER REGISTRATION DRIVE
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Sept. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Massachusetts residents

will be able to register to vote at 11 Abdow's Big Boy restaurants on Saturday, Sept. 26, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Big Boy officials said the goal of the drive is to encourage state residents to register and vote. According to 1990 figures, Massachusetts ranks 20th in voter registration with just under 70 percent of its voting age population registered. Assisting in the voter registration drive will be several chapters of the Massachusetts League of Women Voters.
The registration drive is part of the national "Big Boy for President" campaign that runs through Oct. 10. Nearly 600 Big Boy restaurants are holding in-store mock elections for citizens of all ages. Customers can choose between Big Boy, George Bush and Bill Clinton on mock ballots. The purpose of the campaign is to help make the public aware of the election process.
Big Boy will take his campaign on the road and visit eight cities, including Springfield, on Sept. 24 and 25. During his Springfield visit, Big Boy will oversee two mock elections at Kiley Middle School, 180 Cooley St., on Friday, Sept. 25, at 8:45 a.m. and 10:15 a.m.
Another part of the campaign is a video contest among fourth-, fifth-, and sixth-grade students at 13,000 elementary schools across the country. Students will submit short videos on the theme, "How to be a great president."
