BIG 3 AUTOMAKER INITIATES PROJECTS FOR TOP SOURCE "ARC" SAFETY SEAT
NEW YORK, Nov. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Top Source, Inc. (TSI) (NASDAQ: TOPS) announced today that a major Detroit automaker requested Integram, a seating manufacturer, together with Top Source, develop the Top Source ARC Safety Technology, initially for a high-volume vehicle the automaker manufacturers. The ARC technology is exclusively licensed to Top Source by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Integram, the seating division of Magna International, will pay Top Source an undisclosed amount of money to jointly conduct final development and testing for the specified vehicle. In addition, Integram will become a sub-licensee of the ARC technology and will pay an undisclosed future royalty to Top Source.
The new Top Source safety technology is called ARC (Acceleration Restraint Curve) Seat Safety Motion. Integram, an industry leader and pioneer of integrated child safety seats, is the first seat manufacturer to contract with an automaker to develop the ARC technology. This technology supplements air bags and seat belts by providing additional occupant injury reduction through controlled seat motion activated by frontal crash impact. In sled tests, the ARC technology has proven the ability to reduce injuries to front seat occupants during a severe frontal crash.
Stuart Landow, chairman and CEO of Top Source, stated: "We have invested substantial capital, and with the help of M.I.T. and other engineers, generated sled test results that have captured industry attention. This development project is a statement of industry confidence in our technology and greatly enhances the ARC Seat Safety Technology's world-wide marketing appeal."
