BIEBER, LOFTON ANNOUNCE RATIFICATIONOF PATTERN-SETTING NEW UAW-FORD AGREEMENT

DETROIT, Sept. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- UAW President Owen Bieber and Vice President Ernest Lofton announced that UAW members voted by a 2-to-1 margin to ratify the Union's pattern-setting new agreement with Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F).
The overall margin of acceptance for the new agreement was

67 percent. Skilled trades workers, who vote separately on the agreement, approved the pact by 61 percent.
"We are pleased with the overwhelming acceptance by Ford workers of this new agreement. It sets a solid pattern for the auto industry and it charts significant progress for UAW members at Ford for the next three years," said Bieber and Lofton, director of the UAW Ford Department.
"We are confident that the many protections and gains included in the new agreement will assure workers of a strong foundation for their future while allowing the U.S. auto industry to maintain the forward momentum it is achieving in today's competitive marketplace," Bieber and Lofton said. The new national agreement covers approximately 97,000 UAW-Ford members in 43 local unions across the country.
The UAW officers praised UAW-Ford local union leaders and members "for maintaining a high level of discipline, solidarity and support for their negotiating team throughout the complex and arduous bargaining with Ford. The strong support of the membership was the crucial factor that enabled the negotiating committee to improve job and income security, protect and improve health care and other benefits, increase retirement benefits substantially, provide for increased incomes and additional holidays, strengthen the Union's voice on sourcing matters while encouraging the company to in-source work, expand education and training programs, improve health and safety protections, and achieve many other gains."
Bieber and Lofton also acknowledged "the constructive approach taken by Ford Motor Company's negotiators and company officers towards reaching an equitable pattern-setting agreement that meets the needs of Ford workers in ways that also fit the circumstances involving the industry as a whole."
