BI ANNOUNCES CONTRACT FOR NEW HOME ESCORT 9000(TM) UNITS

BOULDER, Colo., June 9 /PRNewswire/ -- BI Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: BIAC), the industry leader in electronically monitored systems for corrections, today announced receipt of a contract from the Arizona Department of Corrections for 400 new BI 9000 Home Escort(TM) units for use in the metropolitan Phoenix and Tuscon, Ariz. regions.
For the past four years, Arizona's Department of Corrections has leased 398 BI Home Escort units which will be replaced by the new 9000 series units at a rate of 100 units per month commencing July 1, 1993, for a three year lease period. Arizona's electronically monitored home detention program is comprised of prisoners from the state prison system who remain on "inmate" status while on the program. These offenders are out of prison in lieu of the normal release processes, and will evolve into parole or standard release programs upon successful completion of their home detention sentences.
According to Michael Arra, public information specialist with the Arizona Department of Corrections, "Arizona officials are pleased that BI's continuous service will eliminate the need for running two systems simultaneously during the change out of equipment, allowing for a continued high security level of inmate monitoring."
BI holds approximately 70 percent of the U.S. corrections market for electronically monitored home detention, having shipped over 35,000 units to 702 customer accounts world-wide. Today's order for equipment will represent the first shipment of the BI 9000 Home Escort Series.
