BFI TO HOST GRAND OPENING OF ITS ARBOR HILLS CENTER FOR RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
 Community leaders and neighbors alike will join Browning-Ferris Industries (NYSE: BFI) in open house festivities at the BFI Arbor Hills Center for Resource Management.
 This recycling facility, unique to Michigan, is one of 80 recycleries operated by subsidiaries of BFI in North America where various components of the waste stream will be recovered, treated and sold to various markets throughout the country.
 The festivities will take place from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m., Oct. 2, at the Arbor Hills Center for Resource Management, 10833 Five Mile Road, Northville, Mich. BFI Chairman and CEO William D. Ruckelshaus will be addressing the audience, as well as Chad McIntosh, Gov. Engler's environmental policy advisor. OVERVIEW
 BFI's Arbor Hills Center for Resource Management represents the most modern and comprehensive approach to solid waste management yet undertaken. Located within the nearly 1,000-acre BFI site at Arbor Hills, the center's various components will:
 -- Provide opportunities for educational and recreational activities for area students and adults
 -- Offer a variety of alternatives to landfilling many kinds of solid waste
 -- Enable materials that would otherwise end up in the landfill to instead be recycled and transformed into valuable resources
 -- Allow safe and effective management of special solid waste categories on-site
 -- Derive energy from the by-products of the natural decomposition process of this solid waste COMPONENTS

 -- Tire and Wood Processing
 -- Environmental Education Center
