BFI ELECTS NEW VP-GENERAL SALES MANAGER, AND VP-INVESTOR RELATIONS
 HOUSTON, March 20 /PRNewswire/ -- The board of directors of Browning-Ferris Industries, Inc. (NYSE: BFI) today announced the election of Edward H. Hamlett as vice president, general sales manager, and Sandra D. Glatzau as vice president, investor relations.
 Hamlet, 43, previously a divisional vice president, became general sales manager in May, 1991, filling a vacancy created when Edward Crane resigned in January. He first joined BFI as a district sales manager in Dallas in 1979, became Southwest Regional sales manager in 1980, headed regional sales starting in 1988, and was promoted to divisional vice president for sales and market development for the Region in 1990.
 Glatzau, 40, joined BFI in 1978 as a sales representative in Winston-Salem, N.C., and after a series of advances, was promoted to regional sales manager of BFI's southeast region in 1984 and subsequently promoted to divisional vice president, market development for the region. She replaces Fletcher Thorne-Thomsen, Jr., who will work closely with her to ensure a smooth transition before he takes on new responsibilities.
 Browning-Ferris Industries, Inc. is one of the largest publicly-held companies engaged in providing waste services. Subsidiaries and affiliates collect, transport, treat and dispose of commercial, residential and municipal solid waste and industrial wastes. BFI subsidiaries are also involved in recycling, resource recovery facilities, medical waste services, portable restroom services, and municipal and commercial sweeping operations.
