BFI DIRECTORS DECLARE QUARTERLY DIVIDEND, ELECT FOUR VICE PRESIDENTS AND SET ANNUAL MEETING DATE

             BFI DIRECTORS DECLARE QUARTERLY DIVIDEND,
       ELECT FOUR VICE PRESIDENTS AND SET ANNUAL MEETING DATE
    HOUSTON, Texas, Dec. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- The board of directors of Browning-Ferris Industries, Inc. (NYSE: BFI) today declared the company's regular quarterly cash dividend of 17 cents per common share, payable Jan. 7, 1992, to shareholders of record on Dec. 20, 1991.
    The company also announced today the election of the following individuals to newly-created offices:  Hugh J. Dillingham, vice president, disposal, Peter J. Marroletti, vice president, operations and J. Gregory Muldoon, vice president, operations.  Previous to his election, Dillingham served as divisional vice president of disposal operations for the company's Mid America Region and has over fourteen year's of experience with the company in landfill operations. Marroletti joined the company's East Central Regional (currently known as the Atlantic Region) in 1981, and previous to his election served as district manager of the Washington/Maryland Metro and Potomac Districts. Muldoon previously served as the regional vice president of the company's Southwest Region and has over eleven year's experience with the company.
    Henry L. Hirvela, who has served as the company's treasurer since 1988, was also elected as a vice president of the company and will continue in his current office.
    The board of directors also established that the company's 1992 annual meeting of stockholders will be held on March 4, 1992, at 2:00 p.m., at the Hyatt Regency West Houston in Houston.  Stockholders of record at the close of business on Jan. 9, 1992 will be entitled to notice of and to vote at the meeting.
    Browning-Ferris Industries, Inc. is one of the largest publicly held companies engaged in providing waste services.  Subsidiaries and affiliates collect, transport, treat and dispose of commercial, residential and municipal solid waste and industrial wastes.  BFI subsidiaries are also involved in recycling, resource recovery facilities, medical waste services, portable restroom services, and municipal and commercial sweeping operations.
